OKC Thunder 2024 Playoffs
CHALLENGE
How do we get fans excited for the first playoff run in four years while also keeping fans expectations realistic?
SOLUTION
We invited fans to join us on the journey of postseason basketball, while focusing messaging on the work and effort it took this team to get into the postseason.
EXECUTION
This concept is all about the postseason journey being one step of a much longer process and the only way to get to where you are going is by putting in the work. The pieces are there and starting to form something while our visuals depict it all coming together.
The logo I designed was the first time we’ve created a mark specifically for the Playoffs. It allowed groups from across the organization an easy identifier to instantly distinguish it for this special time.
Playoff Patio
This year we wanted to bring a playoff experience to fans outside of the arena. To do that we created the Playoff Patio, a space filled with large murals on the main walls, a retail shop, a wall made from the original practice court for fans to sign, Thunder entertainers, and more.
For each away game we would open the patio during the day for people to come play bingo, do yoga, play games, etc. Then we should shut down for the game when the guest list became invite only.
Malcolm’s Guide
Since it’s been a few years between playoff appearances, we wanted to get fans ready and excited for what was to come. This year we had one of our in-game emcee’s, Malcolm, talk to fans through a microsite letting them know everything they needed to know to be prepared for games. From when to show up to the arena to how loud they should be during the game, we covered it all and updated the site as we progressed.
